Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes, it’s free for customers. You pay only the rate you agree with the BDC you choose.
Who can send me offers?
Only bureaux de change whose CBN licence we have checked against the CBN’s published list, and whose verification is current. Individuals and unlicensed dealers can’t send offers.
Do you hold or transfer my money?
No. You pay the BDC directly by transfer to its business account, and receive your FX at its licensed branch. We never collect, hold or transfer money.
Why do you ask what the money is for?
Licensed BDCs may only sell FX to individuals for approved purposes such as travel, school fees abroad, medical bills abroad and professional exam fees. Knowing the purpose helps providers prepare the right paperwork.
What will the BDC ask me for?
Expect an identity check (BVN or TIN for residents, passport for non-residents) and documents for the purpose — for example a travel ticket or a school invoice. We don’t collect these; the BDC does.
Why is the rate I’m offered different from the CBN rate?
The CBN rate is the official market rate for the day. BDCs set their own customer rates on top of what they pay for FX. Comparing several offers is the best way to know what’s fair.
Can I sell foreign currency?
Yes. Post a sell request and BDCs will send offers. Above the equivalent of $500, the BDC pays you by transfer to your naira bank account, and for $10,000 or more you’ll be asked to declare the source of funds.
Can my business buy FX for imports here?
No. BDCs may not sell FX to businesses except for business travel. Import payments go through banks in the official market.
When can I post a request in my city?
We open city by city, once enough licensed BDCs are verified there to give you real choice. Create an account and choose your city, and we’ll tell you when it opens.
Do you publish black market rates?
No. We show the CBN’s official rate as a reference and real offers from licensed BDCs.
